Met een grote opkomst waren wij als Kiwanisclub Brunssum goed vertegenwoordigd.<\/p>\n<p>Na een gastvrije ontvangst en een woord van welkom door Ineke Griede werden de aanwezigen ingewijd in de activiteiten van \u00a0Kinderonderzoeksfonds Limburg. Dit onderzoeksfonds ondersteunt onder andere het Mosa Kinderziekenhuis, gevestigd in het MUMC+. \u00a0Het MUMC+ werkt op onderzoeks terrein zeer nauw samen met partnerziekenhuizen in Limburg.<br \/>De ondersteuning door de Health\u00a0Foundation maakt het mogelijk \u00a0onderzoek te doen naar de mogelijkheden om de kinderen met ernstige ziektes te behandelen. De veelbelovende onderzoeksprogramma&#8217;s richten zich met name op het voorkomen van vroeggeboorte. (Ter illustratie: per dag worden 33 baby&#8217;s te vroeg geboren. Jaarlijks overlijden 300 vroeggeborenen.)<\/p>\n<p>Het hoofd Laboratorium Kindergeneeskunde, Tim Wolfs, nam ons aansluitend mee in een aantal onderzoeksprojecten waarbij onder andere lammetjes worden gebruikt om inzicht te krijgen op de effecten van vroeggeboorte. Door dr.
